Happy September! As we dive into a new month and a new theatre season, we’re eager to gather with you for live theatre – including our own triumphant return to the stage in March, 2023! (Stay tuned for more announcements in the coming weeks . . .)
In the meantime, we’re excited to share news about a French-language theatre event on Thursday, September 15, as the Rialto Center for the Arts presents Traces – Discours aux Nations Africaines (Traces: A Speech to African Nations), a poignant one-man play by Felwine Sarr, featuring actor Étienne Minoungou and musician/composer Simon Winsé.
In this feat of exceptional storytelling, Étienne Minoungou gives voice to the experience of leaving Africa and returning with a message of hope. Minoungou embodies the philosophy and poetry of Felwine Sarr, one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2021, who wrote this Speech to African Nations as “a vast odyssey, a metaphorical journey towards a luminous engagement . . . in service to the future of youth.”
A post-show panel will follow the performance, presented in collaboration with Georgia State University’s Center for Studies on Africa and its Diaspora (CSAD).
We hope you’ll take advantage of this opportunity to experience Francophone theatre . . . and we look forward to seeing you at our next Théâtre du Rêve event!
