Celebrating West Africa!

Our fifth Virtual Salon of the season, Modern West Africa, is Sunday, May 16 . . . and it may be our best one yet!

TdR Salons are more than just Zoom readings – they’re opportunities to dig deep into an aspect of the Francophone world through performances, interviews, and stimulating conversations. We have a brilliant group of collaborators on this one, including Clark Atlanta University professors Garry Yates and Eric Little, and dramaturgs Addae Moon and Amina McIntyre. Expect lively dialogue!

Just in case you’re still on the fence about committing to a Sunday afternoon in the Zoom Room, here are five great reasons join us:

#5: Delicious West African food and drink recipes

Every TdR Salon includes a signature cocktail/mocktail recipe, and we have a blast mixing drinks together as the festivities get underway . . . and for this Salon we’re adding recipes for delicious food from Senegal. Spring in Atlanta means beautiful weather, so feel free to take your beverage, snack, and phone or laptop out on the veranda for the full Salon experience!

#4: Fabulous Music

Eliana always creates great Spotify playlists and sends them out at least a week before each Salon, so you’re already grooving when the Salon begins. She’s got a truly hot list for this one, including Be Proud by Witty Minstrel.

#3: Great Conversation

Our breakout room conversations are magnifigue, and this Salon includes a wide range of discussion opportunities. We’ll have breakout rooms in English, French, and “French Lite,” plus an African Heritage breakout space hosted by our Senegalese American colleague, Demi Sienna. Venez tous!

#2: Brilliant collaborators

In addition to our expert directors and dramaturgs, we’re working with an outstanding cast that includes Daisean Garrett, Dionna Davis, Marcellis Cutler, and Enoch King (who blew us away at our first Virtual Salon with his performance as Caliban in Aime Cesaire’s A Tempest).

And the #1 reason to attend TdR’s Salon: It’s the best “TED Talk Meets Happy Hour” experience on Zoom!

Truly, our Salons are like nothing else you’ll find online. We plan months in advance to create events that are stimulating, fascinating, and welcoming. The only thing missing from our next Salon is YOU!

Please RSVP today for Modern West Africa: Francophone African Voices of the 21st Century! We can’t wait to see you there.
