Le théâtre nous manque, n’est-ce-pas? It has been far too long since we all sat together in a theater and enjoyed a new play.
While we can’t yet be together in person, we, in partnership with Penobscot Theatre, are excited to bring you the next best thing! From April 22 – May 9, we are bringing you a new play, Je Ne Suis Pas Evangeline (I Am Not Evangeline), in a way that is entirely new to us. This piece, written and performed by our very own Carolyn Cook and featuring TdR favorite Jennifer Schottstaedt, will be brought to you as a fully realized film production. Not a movie per se, but a theatrical piece captured on video and streaming in your home. This has been a completely new process for us, and we can’t wait to share what we’ve created.
Je Ne Suis Pas Evangeline (I Am Not Evangeline) is an original story about a modern-day woman, Eva, wrestling with the ideals of French Acadian womanhood in the poem “Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Throughout the play, Eva compares Evangeline’s story to her own life and the lives of her two Acadian grandmothers.
Please join us, April 22 – May 9! By purchasing a household ticket to Je Ne Suis Pas Evangeline, you are not only supporting TdR, but the wonderful Penobscot Theater in Maine who commissioned this work. So gather your family, or host a small, socially-distanced watch party, and allow yourself to be transported into Eva’s world . . . and back into the world of theatre!
